When we’re not having moments like these - this was from middle-of-the-day-yesterday
I’m out in the garden as much as possible. Honestly, I was out in the garden for at least 33 minutes after getting this alert yesterday because I could watch the storm rolling in. It looked like this. And it was pretty obvious when it was time to come in.
But after yesterday’s storm cleared (and the power came back on) I went exploring.
Here are my two favorite’s of the moment:
Prairie Milkweed (Asclepias sullivantii). It’s on the south edge of the rain garden. I can’t explain how big these flowers are compared to common milkweed. And the fragrance!
I got the whole garden planted by last Thursday night (holding the phone flashlight in my mouth by the end), right before the big rain. By Monday seeds started germinating. Now all the peregion dry beans are above ground. I’m still mystified by seeds. This is all from a handful of dry bean seeds I saved in Oregon that were well over 15+ years old when I planted them.
Those are my two favorites right now. Tell me about your favorites growing in your garden (or local park or neighbor’s yard or community garden plot).

Two things I love: crazy summer weather and new growth in the garden 🩷
