Late last year I signed up for a drawing challenge that started mid-January.
I don’t exactly know why, but it just sort of felt like a good idea. Like I knew I wanted the permission slip to make time to be creative every day - and have a good reason to keep learning to use Procreate.
We’re thirteen days in and here’s a little snapshot of how I’ve been spending my time.

It’s definitely fun. I am very much learning. And it’s fun to see that I may have some similarities that seem to pop up each day.
And I’m noticing a lot of similarities to the first time I did this sort of daily challenge. Eleven years ago when I committed to typing a quote each day on the typewriter. Then it turned into posting them on Instagram. Then a little writing each day to accompany the quote.
I made it almost a year and a half of finding a quote and typing it up every single day. Mostly, I remember how steady I feel about this commitment I have made. It’s totally arbitrary, but I’m choosing to do it. Which includes very silly actions like falling asleep on the sofa at night and waking up and forcing my eyeballs open long enough to make my drawing for the day and share it.
I’m staying up later than my best habits, but not nearly late enough as my worst habits.
Have you challenged yourself to learn or practice a new skill lately? Are you eagerly losing yourself inside a big project? What are you making time for lately?
Hope you’re noticing the few extra bits of light at the end of the day,
✏️vanessa

Vanessa, these are magical. I love your drawings so much.
I love your drawings! This is a cool challenge. Not consistent with any daily practice right now. But I’d like to incorporate one at some point. Can one love routines and also be terrible at dedicating to them? 👋🏼
